Photos 10

I saw this photo while walking and simply had to stop.  First of all, I love the fall colors.  What really catches my eye here though are the vertical lines.  The trees, the lamp post... they all remind me of a quaint little town.  I think it is a beautiful image.  The one thing I really do not like is the building in the background.  I wish there was something older in its place.

This is a photo of some lights I have in my room.  I took this picture for the contrast and affinity of colors.  The purple stands out in contrast to the browns, yellows, and reds.  However, there is some affinity with blue: they are both cooler colors.  This photo is also very flat space, which I think is cool: it helps isolate the purple light even more.

I really wanted a photo with deep space, so I took some playing cards that I have for a game and lined them up with lighter cards in the front and darker cards in the back.  There are also some converging lines that I think look really nice.  I feel like this photo is not centered, which is something I wanted.

  1. Josh,
Your first photo does capture the feeling of a little town. The items you focused on putting in the frame helped create an inviting and historic feeling. I wouldn't say the building is terrible, but I agree in switching it with an older looking house or something. I wish we could see more of the trees, just because they are so pretty.
Your second photo made me take a second glance because the object is pretty unique. I love the purple color and how the sun hits it so we see a glow. There is a little purple in the corner, I imagine from another light, and I think it would be better with it gone, or more visible, to see more lights.
Your third photo does well at capturing the deep space you were going for, even though it gets a bit shallow (because I still see the texture pretty well). I agree it would be better if it was centered.
    Well done!

  2. Hey Josh, I think I'm supposed to comment on your photos this week because this is week 10 and I think we're starting over... Haha.

Your first photo has some nice ballance, which works nicely. I wonder what if would have felt like if the post and bench and tree were just a little bit more spread out?
The second photo is as much about color as it is about shape. Not that there's huge contrast in the shape, because the b.g. is totally out of focus. But the shape of the light is just straight up interesting to look at. I like the other light creeping in through the top-right corner as well. Very fun.
The third photo is my favorite. I feel like it is a perfect illustration of how tone affects space! I feel like I learned something today just by looking at your photo, which is awesome. It is the most intentional of the three I think. :)
Great work man! Thanks for sharing.
